OUR COMPANY

Special Materials, Ltd. was founded in 1990 and is the privatised successor to the Russian State Armored Materials Laboratory. Our company includes production facilities, Design Bureau and Research and Testing Center. Since 1997 Special Marerials Ltd. has issued magazine devoted to the problems of security and protection quarterly.
We co-operate with Russian Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defence, Army Research Laboratory (USA) Lawrenc Livermore National Laboratory (USA), Ernst Mach Institut (Germany), General Mechanics of Institute Vien University (Austria), Russian Academy of Science.

SMRTC, a subdivision of Special Materials ltd. accredited by Russian State Standard (certificate No POCC RU.0001.22C308), supervises a complete process of manufacturing, starting from a rough drawing to the full quality control of a final product.

Mechanical Property Testing Laboratory

The range of modern techniques and facilities provides reliable testing of mechanical properties, such as impact resistance, of various materials: metals, composites etc.

Special Testing Laboratory

Provides ballistic testing of personal protections, collective protections, armor, armored vehicles, armored physical protection products as well as testing of cold steel resistance and anti- burglary products.

Chemical and Structural Analysis Laboratory

Using up-date equipment provides testing of macro and microstructures, determination of chemical compositions of metal materials.

Dynamic Properties Laboratory

This new structure shows a good example of fruitful cooperation between Russian Academy of Science and Special Materials ltd. in the field of fundamental investigation of dynamic strength. New methods of impact-wave material behavior diagnostics on the micro level with a real time scale have been obtained.
